new in town

my wife recently won another radio contest (again) and she got a bunch of new DVDs

tonight we watched the movie, “NEW IN TOWN”

I highly recommend renting the movie if you haven’t seen it

Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick Jr are wonderful together

And you could also call the movie a Christian film, since one character in the movie speaks about how Jesus Christ knows what we’re going through and is always with us :)

UP

UP is a great movie - go SEE IT

Although not totally flawless, UP has a sense of movie magic, wonder and meaning that should keep it flying high above the competition

I say if you loved FINDING NEMO, you’ll love UP

And if you loved WALL-E, you’ll probably love UP, too (but still think WALL-E was the better movie, as many WALL-E fans consider WALL-E a classic for our generation)

A gentle note of caution: Try not to think too hard about whether helium balloons can really lift a house, and whether a flying house can reach its intended destination so perfectly, and whether dog collars can make dogs talk, and whether dogs can be trained to cook and serve food, and whether an old man who can no longer walk down the stairs can trek across the jungle with a house tied to his back.

night at the museum

My review of Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

It’s worth seeing…not as good as the original, but worth seeing

On paper it SHOULD be a better movie than the original. There’s more action, more romance, more interesting characters. But that’s just the problem. There’s so much more of EVERYTHING, that the movie loses its focus.

Larry Daley (played by Ben Stiller) is supposed to be unhappy with life even though he became a successful inventor and corporate CEO since the first movie, but there aren’t any scenes to support that premise.

Also, Amy Adams portrayal of Amelia Earhart seemed a llittle too over the top for me – like Katie Couric on speed. And considering the fact that her character had never met Larry Daley, it seems a bit contrived how quickly her character becomes attached to him and his mission.

Kudos to Hank Azaria as the character, Kahmunrah. He stole the show with his highly original and convincing performance as an Egyptian pharoah who could be very evil and very funny at the same time. The movie would have been much better if it had given Mr. Azaria more to do, but he certainly made the best of it.

A final note: check your brain at the theatre concession stand, because there’s no way to explain how so much mayhem and destruction can occur in a national museum without even a single guard taking the slightest notice

2.5 stars

Note: no nudity, mild violence, only one instance of mild cursing

last chance harvey

my wife rented the movie “Last Chance Harvey” and we thoroughly enjoyed watching it

Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson were wonderful on screen together

why am I reviewing this movie on a Christian blog you may ask?

well, for one, God is a big fan of romance between men and women – He invented it!

and two, this movie has NO cursing, nudity, violence or fornication

how rare is that nowadays in a movie?

if you haven’t seen this film yet, go rent it and enjoy
