the laundry

The Laundry
I help my mommy sort the clothes
by burrowing through them
with my nose
One time I snoozed and started to spin
Oh no – the washer! Mom
threw me in!

in autumn

in autumn
a crackling, dancing fire
the scent of orange and cloves
flannel sheets and glowing lights
and socks to warm the toes
baked apples with brown sugar
and sweet potato pies
homemade stews and cider brews
and snuggling on cold nights
these i love in autumn
with you here by my side
a walk

a walk
I asked my mommy to go for a walk
along my favorite trail
She’s asked my old daddy to tag along
And daddy moved his tail
I guided my parents straight through the woods
with perfect four-pawed drive
Fending off bunnies and nut hurling squirrels
I got them home alive!
pumpkin patch

today i picked a pumpkin
today i picked a pumpkin
and carried it myself
i couldn’t wait to get it home
and carve it (with some help)
should i make it smile
or grimace like a ghoul?
it doesn’t matter anyway
my pumpkin is so cool!
throw the leaves

throw the leaves!
throw the leaves!
throw the leaves!
crispy, crackly, crunchy fun
throw the leaves!
throw the leaves!
make them shimmer in the sun
throw the leaves!
throw the leaves!
watch them twirl and glide
throw the leaves!
throw the leaves!
here comes mom – let’s hide!
autumn
autumn
air refreshed
trees transformed
rustling leaves tumbling ’round
golden light upon the bark
of maple, oak and elm
quiet walks by rippling waters
splashing over stones
soft blue sky
branches sway
amid the winds of change

the hallway
the hallway
down the long hallway,
he enters
the only sound – the beating
of his heart
and his footsteps
as he passes by the
open rooms
on his left and his right,
they are filled with
light
streaming through the
open windows
shining bright blue
and gold
he stops to close
his eyes
and feel the soft
breezes that
dance
across
his face
a violin begins to play
he walks towards
the sound
the music is sweet
and strong
it grows even stronger
now with the
sound
of spraying water
as he turns into
the very last
room
and sees the dazzling
light and
flowers
everywhere
she is there
“it’s ours!” she cries, “all ours!”
“our mansion by the sea”

a poem
a poem
a poem, a prayer
a promise, a word
an image, a color
a sight never heard
a window, an ocean
a starship, a star
a journey, a memory
wherever you are
a moment, a movement
a question, a sign
a painting, a picture
of what’s left behind
a story, a landscape
a sunset, a dawn
a whisper, a silence
that breathes a new song

all ducks
all ducks
all ducks should
wear hats
they would look
oh so stylish
donning baseball caps
you would turn and see
them smiling
every time they
quacked
because you noticed
their hat
and you would
smile back

the astronomer
the astronomer
searching through
the night
the astronomer
peers
into the outermost
deep
pulsing orbs
exploding lights
the ends of the
universe reach
below the observatory
all are asleep
in unlit homes
dreaming dreams
that meet
beyond the
farthest star
