perpetual thanksgiving

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
   come into his presence with singing.

Know that the Lord is God.
   It is he that made us, and we are his;
   we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
   and his courts with praise.
   Give thanks to him, bless his name.

For the Lord is good;
   his steadfast love endures for ever,
   and his faithfulness to all generations.

Psalm 100

Comment: I am thankful that I am a sheep and that the Lord is my shepherd.  As a sheep, I know that I do not have to tell the shepherd how to do his job.  As a sheep, I do not have to pray or beg that the shepherd will care for my needs.  Rather, I thank him for all that He does for me every day without my asking.  God has said that goodness and mercy will follow me (= chase me down, pursue me) all the days of my life!

Linus: “In the year 1621, the Pilgrims held their first Thanksgiving feast. They invited the great Indian chief Massasoit, who brought ninety of his brave Indians and a great abundance of food. Governor William Bradford and Captain Miles Standish were honored guests.  Elder William Brewster, who was a minister, said a prayer that went something like this:

‘We thank God for our homes and our food and our safety in a new land. We thank God for the opportunity to create a new world for freedom and justice.’”

Peppermint Patty: “Amen.”
