my new dawn

nation under God

Posted on: April 14, 2009

“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”

Proverbs 14:34

I heard someone speak this Scripture today. It reminded me of the fact that God’s formula for a nation in crisis is simple. If a troubled nation returns to righteousness, then that nation will be exalted.

Thankfully, we still have the phrase “In God We Trust” on our money here in the USA. And since the Bible tells us that the love of money is the root of all evil, putting a reminder about the importance of trusting God on money was a stroke of genius.

But I think it’s up to me – and all Christians – to go one step further by reminding ourselves and others about Proverbs 14:34.

We need to fight against this idea of separation and church and state that some people interpret to mean: ‘you can believe in whatever you want, just don’t say the rest of us – or our nation – is morally accountable to the God of your Bible.’

No.

Either that Bible applies to everybody and every nation, or it applies to no one.
